ABINGDON — A Pennington Gap man indicted in 2019 for his part in a methamphetamine distribution ring will serve a 15-year federal prison term.

According to U.S. Western District Attorney Thomas T. Cullen, 31-year-old Travis Ryan Skaggs was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Abingdon on one count each of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 or more grams of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute and distributing methamphetamine.

Cullen said Skaggs was one of 21 people charged in a May 2019 indictment in an alleged conspiracy to distribute meth in Wise and Lee counties. In addition to purchasing and distributing meth from higher-ups in the ring, Cullen said, Skaggs was found in possession “of a distribution quantity” of meth when serving time at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.
