KINGSPORT — TriPrideTN, Inc. announced last week the continued support of the Citi Operations Center in Gray as the parade sponsor for the organization’s 2019 Parade and Festival. Citi presented a sponsorship donation check to TriPrideTN on June.

Chris Dagenhart, a TriPrideTN board member, said the partnership between the two organizations has been amazing. He believes the relationship Citi is building with the LGBTQ(+) community and supporting organizations makes it a regional leader of inclusion and diversity.

This money and other fundraising will be used to organize and plan a free community Pride parade and festival for the Tri-Cities on Sept. 7 that will be open to everyone. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Main Street, east of Centennial Park, and proceed west down Main Street, ending at the corner of West Main and Clay streets, where the festival will be held in the parking area of the Kingsport Higher Education Center. That will also put parade spectators and participants at the main entrance to get into the festival perimeter.

What will the festival area include?

• Sixteen food trucks, so lots of food options.

• Alcohol: beer and liquor-based drinks.

• Live music and drag performances.

• An art competition.

• Vendors and exhibitors.

• A group estimated at about 150 folks who have joined up to do Free Hugs (Free Mom Hugs, Free Dad Hugs, Free aunt/uncle/cousin, etc.). Many were at TriPride in Johnson City last year. This year they’ve organized into a more cohesive group.

Across the Tri-Cities, businesses large and small are getting involved to help make TriPrideTN a success by contributing sponsorship money or by making an in-kind donation, according to Dagenhart. “We are fortunate to have a prominent employer such as Citi sponsoring this event,” Dagenhart said.

TriPrideTN, Inc. is a 501(c)3 charity formed in 2017 whose purpose is to organize and present a free community Pride festival and parade.
